I am sharing the alternative cards made with my Lovely Lavender Paper Pumpkin kit! As an added bonus, January’s kit includes four printed tags that pop out from the card fronts. I always look forward to receiving my Paper Pumpkin kits, and making alternative cards. It stretches my creativity and it’s a fun challenge!
The January Lovely Lavender Paper Pumpkin kit included enough supplies to make 8 cards. By combining the kit’s precut paper pieces with the coordinating Perennial Lavender Designers Series Paper, I made 4 new cards. That expands my kit to 16 cards! Take a look at the unboxing video to see how easily the original cards come together.

Here’s all the pieces of the kit laid out. I love that Stampin’ Up! card bases have designs on the front and back and that I’m able to cut the flower and Highland Heather card base in half.
My alternative cards
First up, the shaker card to the kit. I used that beautiful Highland Heather color wash card as the back piece and adhered it to a Basic White card base. The other change I made was to only use one large, single stemmed flower and a smaller piece of the greenery. The greeting tag, cut from the base from the greenery cluster, stamped with “thank you” from the Perennial Postage stamp set.
This second card uses that tag punch out from the above card front. My Highland Heather card base is embossed with an embossing folder. I cut a piece of vellum for under the tag and adhered the entire piece to the card front at an angle. My greeting is from stamps in the kit and the Many Mates stamp set. I finished my card with a greenery piece behind the tag and a small bow on top.
Simple twist card directions
The third card adapts one of Connie Stewart’s “simple twist cards” from her blog. I loved the idea and made one for my husband’s Valentine’s Day card (see it here). For this card, I start with a Pretty Peacock card base of 4-1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5-1/2″. To make a “twist” opening, I made a pencil mark at 4-1/2″ on the bottom left. Fold the bottom corner up to match the top edge and crease it. The small pencil mark at 4-1/2″ and the upper right front corner is the guide as to where the fold begins. See direction diagrams below.

I cut a 4″ x 4″ piece from the floral card front, saving the other pieces. Using one of the white, silver edged tags, I stamped several leaves with Gorgeous Grape ink. I add a green leaf sprig and two of the lavender flowers cut apart over the stamped part. The greeting tag, heat embossed on Blackberry Bliss, is cut with the smallest Perennial Post dies. Using Stampin’ dimensionals to pop it up on the front to cover the bottom of the flower stems. Center this square tag on top of the 4″ x 4″ floral pieced then center it on the card front as shown below. A 1″ x 4″ piece goes on the front along the fold as shown.
This shows the 4″ x 4″ front piece twisted partially open on the card.
Here’s the fully open card. It’s such a unique and fun card to give someone.
The final card was based on an example from Rachel Tessman. I made mine using the “love” tag from the kit and some silver glitter ribbon. This will make a great anniversary or special card for someone I love (guess who?!).
As I said, I love my Paper Pumpkin kits. If you want to see more, sign up to receive my newsletters. Each month I have a zoom meeting in which we open our kits together, see what’s in it and create alternatives cards.
