I’m still creating cards for Thanksgiving and fall birthdays using my retired DSP. This wonderful fall plaid is from the Happy Haunting DSP. What? Yes, it’s from a Halloween paper set. If you turned the black dot side over you have entirely different theme with this fun plaid! That’s what I love about Stampin’ Up! double-sided DSP because if you don’t like one side, turn it over and use the other side for something completely different. And right now you can buy 3 and get one free of 8 different current Stampin’ Up! DSP.
I went with a very clean and simple template for this card so that the focus was on the plaid. But getting the look I wanted for my saying didn’t work out quite so easy. I wanted to use the retired orange stampin’ glitter to add some bling and shine to the card, I but forgot how to get it to stick to the card (it’s been too long since I’ve used the glitter). First I used VersaMark to stamp the image and then added the glitter and heat embossed it. But after two failures with glitter coming off everywhere, I remembered I had to add heat ‘n stick powder to make it stick. So attempt #3, I added the heat ‘n stick powder and…it still came off. Hmm, forgot I have to heat set it before and after adding the glitter. Tried attempt #4, but still half of the glitter came off. Okay, I admitted defeat on this one and used the Tangerine Tango embossing powder instead. Later after searching, I found that I probably overheated the heat ‘n stick powder so it wouldn’t hold the glitter. Oh well, I’m pleased with this look, but glitter sure would have made it sparkle.
Here’s what I used for this card.

What an elegant card! Never would have guessed the paper is from a halloween pack – plaids just say cozy fall/winter to me 🙂 I just bought that sentiment set too, it’s the perfect seasonal collection. Have a great day! 🙂
