I’ve been looking FMS325 challenge template all week hoping I’d get the chance to try out the ideas I had rolling around in my head. Since I’ve finished my dad’s and my brother-in-law birthday cards and got them into the mail (I’ll post them next week, so be sure to stop by!), I finally took some time to make a card for this week’s challenge.
I haven’t played with any sketch challenges, or even my own card making, in quite a while since I was winding down my research, cleaning out my office and RETIRED February 2!! Now that I’ve gotten the necessary stuff out of the way, and cleaned up my craft room, I’m ready to get back in to my card crafting!
I pulled out my Birthday Memories DSP for this card. I’m not really into fairy tale prints, but I love the non-whimsical side prints. I originally started with a Daffodil Delight card base but switched to Whisper White after deciding on the DSP prints I wanted to use on the card.
I die-cut a variety of hearts, circles, and squares in a lot of different colors to find a look that I liked. I finally decided on this combination of squares and a heart under my birthday message. I had it all laid out, but at the last minute added the tiny frame of Pacific Point under the yellow print. It made it stand out much better on the card base.
Here’s my first card (I have another idea I’m hoping to made before Monday!):
I used the Layering Squares framelits, Sunshine Wishes thinlits heartland the new Happy Birthday thinlits. I have a lot of leftovers in lots of colors that I’ll have to try in other projects. I love how happy these bright colors make me feel, especially since we have a week of rainy, cloudy days (but at least warm temperatures). I cut the “Birthday” off of the Happy and popped it inside –
Here’s what I used to make this card:

You card caught my eye in the FMS gallery. Love the colorful, happy feel of it and the way you cut the HB die apart. Congratulations on your retirement…..nothing like it–but the grandchildren! ;-). Best wishes. HOpe you have more time to make cards and share them now!

Thanks Susan and InkyButterfly! I love bright colors and this card exemplified that love. And yes, I hope to have lots more time for cards and the grandkids and all their events.
