Yes, I said finally…read to the end and you’ll see why I titled my post this way!
I decided to create another Valentines Day card with this week’s FMS271 sketch. This time I used the So in Love stamps and the So Detailed thinlit dies bundle to create a simple, elegant card.
But as I looked at this photo, I decided it needed something on the bottom. I first thought about adding some rhinestones or enameled hearts, but it just didn’t feel right. So I pulled out my embossing folders and used the Petal Burst – nope, that overpowers the delicate top design.
Back to the design table, again! I flipped through all my folders again, both current and retired and finally decided (after many folders strewn all over my crafting table-LOL) on the Softly Falling folder. I also moved the So Detailed flowers over to the left for better layout balance.
Okay, now it’s too high on the card….argh…one of those crafting days where my layout ideas weren’t working – not yet “a day to celebrate”! Back to the paper trimmer, cut more paper, another die cut, more stamping and, finally “a day to celebrate” with the right layout and proportions!
Some days are just like that. I have many half done or finished cards that I call “failure” cards in a pile. Every so often I revisit them. Some are reworked to create a better card, others stay in the failure pile for now. Today I just kept redoing the card until I got one I liked!
Dimensions are really simple for this final card:
- Whisper White card base was 4-1/4″ x 11″ folded in half
- Melon Mambo piece large enough to die cut the flower, leaving the bottom base on for accent
- Whisper White 4-1/4″ x 3/4″ banner for the greeting
Here’s what you need to make this card. The die brush is especially helpful to quickly get all the little pieces out of the flower die cut:

Beautiful card! The two-tone color scheme works so well and those flowers are gorgeous. Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.

Thanks Karren, this seemed like the card that was going make me give up! But I decided the idea was there…just the layout needed tweaking!
