Everything is not black & white…

July 26, 2016 3 Comments

Maybe it’s black and cream instead? Last weekend I saw a post from a fellow demonstrator, Ginger Pelfrey with a gorgeous B&W card she created for a challenge. I loved it and starting pulling all my retire black and white papers, only to find mine were “very Vanilla” not white. Okay, so I rolled with that option. I created two versions, the first one using Very Vanilla card stock for the base.

I stamped the saying with VersaMark, added black embossing powder and heat embossed the greeting. But when I put the ribbon on, all my embossing powder came off – what?? Oh no, my VersaMark pad was too dry and didn’t hold the embossing powder. So I re-inked my Versamark pad (yeah for reinkers!!), but there were faint black marks on my card front, so I had to do something else. I stamped the greeting on a scrap of very vanilla paper, heat embossed it. Then I punched the scalloped edge all around and popped it up on the front covering my “boo-boo”.

I loved the card so much I decided to duplicate Ginger’s version with a Basic Black card stock card and this time the embossing with white powder worked without a mistake. I always need sympathy and happy anniversary cards and felt these cards could work for either occasion.

Thanks Ginger, I always love seeing your creations! And this one just called to me, especially knowing I’ll need a sympathy card shortly for friend whose mother is very sick 🙁
