Lots of birthdays in January and February among my family and friends. Two of my dear friends have birthdays right after mine, and we always try to get together to celebrate with our 4th longtime friend (her birthday is in late November). We’re a little behind this year. I’m the unofficial social chair/organizer and somehow I got delayed (vacation travel will do that…one place we visited was the Dead Sea!). However…I did get their birthday gifts wrapped in a unique way! I made exploding boxes out of some beautiful, retired DSP to wrap their gifts. Part of their gift is from my trip to Jordan and the Dead Sea in January with my husband (that’s why I’m late in arranging our get-together).
I used last year’s Sweet Soiree DSP (now retired) to make the boxes, each in a little different color to match my friends’ personalities. Here’s the finished boxes:
The greeting on top came from my retired Amazing Life stamp set with flower embellishments (they are all wonderful gardeners, not me though!) and matching ribbons.
This is the inside of each box with the greetings stamped with Broadway Birthday stamp set. As usual, a messy crafting table as I made all of them – LOL!
Here’s how I stacked the items (special microfiber make-up removal clothes and the Dead Sea Spa soap) inside the cubes.
It’s so easy to make these boxes. You just need a 12″ x 12″ piece of our heavy DSP, we have so many beautiful ones to choose from here. Score at 4″ on all four sides, then cut on two opposite sides (see above pictures). Fold the two outside pieces in and then the middle pieces. Slip on the top while holding the box together, a little tricky, but not too hard. When they take off the lid, the box “explodes” to reveal the inside gift. The top takes a pieces of coordinating cardstock cut at 7″ x 7″ and scored at 1-1/2″ on all four sides. Cut the same way as the bottom, but you’ll use sticky tape to adhere the edges into a top.
I’m hoping I will get them their gifts before they see the post so they are surprised! Finger’s crossed and the social organizer needs to get organized! Thanks for stopping by today!
